Bones

Bones

On October 26th, 2021 Animal Control found him starved to death and barely alive in a small crate. His emaciated body was on the verge of death, placed beside a second crate holding another puppy who had already passed. Immediately, Animal Control rushed the precious puppy to Kershaw County Humane Society where our staff lept into high gear–administering fluids and life-saving support. He was ice cold, his temperature would not even read on a thermometer. Soaked in urine, feces, and in drastically critical condition, he was then transported to Camden Veterinary Hospital where the dedicated staff worked on his fragile body for hours. Still in critical condition, he was returned to the heartbroken staff at Kershaw County Humane Society and we began the long process of rehabilitating this sweet puppy. He was only a few months old, devastatingly malnourished and on the brink of rickets. His tiny joints were swollen and his skeleton-esque appearance earned him the name “Bones”. We started him on nine small meals a day to build his strength. Bones needed strength, sunlight, and a miracle. He also needed more one-on-one attention than our staff could provide. Within a week’s time, a foster home for Bones stepped up and took Bones under their wing. Every single day Bones gathered more strength. Soon, he was flourishing with the attention he received as his foster worked to nurse him back to health. Within a few weeks, he had gained weight and was toddling around–stretching out the joints that were so badly swollen just a few weeks before. Soon, he was stable and ready for a home. Unlike so many precious animals who are forced to succumb to cruelty, abuse and neglect, Bones’ story has a happy ending. On December 5th, 2021 he found his forever family. The same puppy who was literally found on the brink of death less than two months prior now has a whole new life ahead of him. Happy Tails!
