Never Too Late to Donate
The summer is almost over, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to donate to your favorite local charity. “Our community has always taken such good care of us” remarks Kershaw County Humane Society employee, Michelle. It’s true, it takes a village to keep organizations like KCHS operating and the citizens of Kershaw County have always been faithful in showing their support of the shelter. Last year, KCHS raised enough money to purchase kennels for the land behind the facility so the dogs could utilize the extra space during recreation time. This year, most of the funding raised will be going towards the extensive day-to-day expenses that KCHS accrues.
Every day, KCHS staff members make huge pans of food -a wet and dry mixture- to feed all of the animals. The mounting expense of food, cleaning supplies, and laundry detergent certainly adds up. Michelle remarks that KCHS employees spend around nine hours a day just doing laundry. Each animal in the humane society gets clean bedding every morning, so the cost of laundry alone is staggering. Furthermore, even the sheer amount of cleaning supplies used to clean the facility is significant in itself.
If citizens can’t afford to donate money this year, tangible donations like bedding, cleaning supplies, laundry detergent, and food are always needed. Donations like Towels, nursery bedding, and blankets are used for kennel bedding. Treats like dental sticks or milk bones (no rawhide) are perfect donations to ensure that all the animals get special treats all year long. If you’d rather donate food, the kittens and cats all use Purina Classic Paté and the puppies and dogs are all on Purina Pedigree or Purina One (mixed with any brand of wet dog food available). Links to the Chewy and Amazon wishlists are posted below, as well as a PayPal link that will go directly to the KCHS account.
As always, Kershaw County Humane Society is so incredibly grateful for the support the citizens of Kershaw County have given to the shelter through the years. Without donations, KCHS would be unable to provide the level of care that they currently give to the animals of Kershaw County. Providing for these animals and organizations that protect them is the perfect way to kick off a new year, and that’s something we can all feel good about.
